Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts recently signed to redevelop San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Italy. The company has decided to begin an extensive renovation program and plans to unveil the property as San Domenico Palace, Taormina, as a Four Seasons Hotel property. The property is considered to be one of the most famous hotels in the world, and has hosted notable guests including Oscar Wilde, Elizabeth Taylor, and DH Lawrence, among many others over the year.
San Domenico Palace is located on the hilltop town of Taormina on the eastern shores of Sicily, overlooking the Bay of Taormina and the Ionian Sea. The hotel comprises of an ancient Dominican monastery from the 15th century, as well as a grand hotel wing that was added in 1896. It features multiple terraces with clear views of the surrounding waters, as well as Mount Etna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It also consists of a beach club, lush gardens and several restaurants and bars including the two-Michelin star restaurant, Principe Cerami. All guest rooms and public spaces feature original architecture and facades from the historic building. Following extensive renovations, the hotel will reopen with 111 guest rooms and suites. John Davison, Chief Executive, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts said in a statement that San Domenico Palace is an extraordinary property in one of Italy’s most historic and charming destinations.
He shared that extending the brand’s presence in the region with the iconic property is a privilege and said that the company is honoured to have the opportunity of managing the beautiful hotel. He concluded that authorities are looking forward to collaborate together on the new project and welcome guests to a new Four Seasons experience at the San Domenico Palace.
