Vietnam is doing everything to woo visitors post pandemic

Building Viet Nam's bridge to greater economic growth and development

Vietnam is leaving no stone unturned to reopen Southeast Asia for city-hoppers and sunseekers.

International arrivals were down 98% in May compared to a year earlier, after a record 2019. However, containment of corona virus epidemic means that domestic travel has already resumed. However, Thailand is still under a state of emergency. Other neighbors in the tourism-friendly region are also slowly easing restrictions. The steady reopening will help in improving Vietnam’s economy.

Throughout the pandemic, Vietnam has been something of a standout case. As per official records, there were just 329 cases and no deaths. That was due to a decision to close borders rapidly, quarantine tens of thousands, and to contact trace and test at impressive levels. Clear official communication, affordable test kits and locally made protective equipment also helped to a great extent.

Vietnam is clearly among the first countries globally to get its citizens holidaying again. Also, Vietnam lays a lot of importance on domestic tourism. Last year, there were 85 million domestic tourists making up more than 80% of all visitors.

Travelers in Vietnam favored shorter breaks closer to home, at the beach or in natural settings, with many still avoiding flights. Discounts and safety were key motivators.

However, what about the return of foreign visitors? That may still be months away, although airlines beginning to prepare for overseas flights.

Also, countries that have managed the pandemic well will be prioritized and welcomed first.
