INTERNATIONAL REPORT—As the New Year approaches, some hotel properties are taking time to renew and revitalize their spaces. Here’s a look at three renovation projects:
Westin Pasadena
Studio 11 Design, a design firm based in Dallas, recently completed a renovation and refresh of the Westin Pasadena’s guestrooms and corridors. The new look is inspired by the city’s historic Spanish style and its downtown location.
Curved lines flow through the renovated corridors and the eight distinctive guestroom types. Undulating waves of light and dark gray tones carpet reflect the San Gabriel Mountains, which carry through to the blue artwork that hangs over the beds. The soft grays of the mountain range are seen again in the elegant tiling of each private bathroom.
Studio 11 Design commissioned custom window shades for guestrooms featuring the outline of Pasadena City Hall, connecting the guest with the city during their room stay. Additionally, the corridors at the Westin Pasadena showcase arch-like patterns highlighted in the carpeting, which echo City Hall’s dome through abstracted and organic shapes.
Courtyard Miami West/FL Turnpike
Following recent renovations to its 127 guestrooms, lobby, business center and public spaces, the Courtyard Miami West/FL Turnpike new look blends form with function.
Each of the redesigned rooms has new furniture, paint, wall decor, carpet and improved lighting. From the outset of the redesign, the focus has been on enhancing the guest experience throughout all areas of the hotel, providing an updated feel that makes it easy to relax, work or rest, according to the brand. Custom furnishings including modern media pod tables, pendant lighting and lounge chairs round out the new aesthetic.
Winter Palace Hotel
The Winter Palace Hotel is located in the city of Luxor, Egypt, overlooking the river Nile and the Valley of the Kings. Sofitel and Ekoth selected GM Architects to lead the project of revamping and modernizing its hotel with new creative components that reflect and embody the historical and archeological roots of its location, according to the company. The project is slated to be completed by the end of 2019.
The aim of the project is to completely redesign the exterior landscaping, linking the hotel gardens. The new and improved hotel layout will encompass the vibrant colors of Nubia, Egypt and the French 19th century lifestyle that encompasses indoor and outdoor living spaces.
