Of late, Central Luzon’s farm tourism industry is being promoted as a new tourism product, not only to draw travelers but also assist local farmers to enhance their income related to agriculture. This came into being after the Department of Tourism Region (DOT)-Central Luzon conducted on a three-day seminar for all the farm owners, which mainly dealt with proper transitioning from the traditional farm to recreational tourism place.
DOT-Central Luzon Tourism Operations Officer I Anna Banawa explained that the agency notices the possibility of farm tourism industry in endorsing Central Luzon tourism as another destination, apt for agricultural trips and recreation. As a popular agricultural region, Banawa stated that Central Luzon has a hopeful future in the industry keeping in mind the number of farms ideal for tourism which requires to be caprured and promoted. “For this project alone, DOT-Central Luzon became generous in downloading almost P500,000 funds to help educate and equip some 20 farm owners who developed their farms into possible traveler’s destinations, which are now becoming popular to the youth,” she said.
Now, Banawa further added by saying that the agency is organizing with different industry experts related to agriculture and tourism to enhance the rising industry and provide Central Luzon farmers a second source of earning. “Basically, we just had the principles of farm tourism, product development and delivery, the proper tourism promotion, and most importantly the trends of tourism in Central Luzon. Very limited lang ‘yung information dahil three lang but what is more significant is the eagerness of our farmers and farm owners to learn and develop their farms into tourist destination,” he said.
