Visit Florida has highlighted several travel promotions with the aim to promote new travel deals to bring in more Canadian tourists.
The Coca-Cola Orlando Eye and DoubleTree Orlando at SeaWorld are the two major attractions that the tourism authority is focusing on. The travel deals come as the number of tourists from Canada — Florida’s top international market — has declined in recent years and the latest promotion “directly addresses concerns from Canadian families regarding the current exchange rate between the U.S. and Canada”.
Gov. Rick Scott said in a statement that Canada is so important to Florida’s tourism industry and the 1.4 million jobs it supports for families across the state … that they will will keep working every day to attract 120 million visitors this year and make Florida the number one global destination.”
The city of Winter Park aims to promote itself on the global scale and plans to attract more tourists from the UK. Betsy Gardner Eckbert, the president of the city’s Chamber of Commerce said that Winter Park wants to pitch itself as a break from theme parks where tourists can tour a museum, shop at a boutique, take a boat tour or eat lunch at an outdoor cafe. She also said that they are trying to draw tourists who need a place to rest.
Since July, the chamber has tracked about 2,000 international visitors — about half from the United Kingdom — who have visited the city’s welcome center.
