The assessment of Agnes Magpale, Cebu Vice Governor explains that the provincial tourism program named “Suroy Suroy sa Sugbo” is not yet fully geared up to be turned over to the private sector, especially to the Cebu Association of Tourist Operators or Cato, should provide as impetus to influence for its immediate realization, which the vice governor said could come as early as next year.
Starting the “Suroy Suroy” program with Cato and other private sector stakeholders would not only exemplify the private-public sector partnership (PPP) approved by the Duterte administration from its predecessor, however, it will help spare the program from partisan politics and Capitol feuds.
There were news doing the rounds that the vice governor confirmed her disapproval at Provincial Tourism Office chief Boboi Costas for creating programs minus policies and ordinances.
The difference between the two was removed after the meeting. However, this development shows how government programs and policies can be impacted, after a split or misunderstanding developing between elected officials and government bureaucrats.
Both Magpale and Costas have shown their commitment to go further than their differences and again unified in executing tourism programs are intended for the province.
