Qatar Airways will launch four weekly flights to Thessaloniki, Greece next year. Thessaloniki is a popular tourist destination in Greece. In 2013, National Geographic Magazine included Thessaloniki in its top tourist destinations worldwide, while in 2014 Financial Times FDI magazine (Foreign Direct Investments) declared Thessaloniki as the best mid-sized European city of the future for human capital and lifestyle.
The flights to the Greek city will commence on 27 March 2018 and operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring 12 seats in Business Class and 132 seats in Economy Class.
Qatar Airways currently operates three daily flights to Athens, Greece’s capital and largest city, and provides more than 4,000 seats to Athens each week. With the addition of Thessaloniki, this will increase to more than 5,000 seats per week.
Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of Macedonia. The city is renowned for its festivals, events and vibrant cultural life in general, and is considered to be Greece's cultural capital. Thessaloniki is home to numerous notable Byzantine monuments, including the Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as several Roman, Ottoman and Sephardic Jewish structures.
The city is also home to one of Greece's most famous and prestigious hotels, Makedonia Palace hotel, the Hyatt Regency Casino and hotel (the biggest casino in Greece and one of the biggest in Europe) and Waterland, the largest water park in southeastern Europe.
Qatar Airways will be adding many more exciting destinations to its network in 2017 and 2018, including Canberra, Australia; Chiang Mai, Thailand; and Penang, Malaysia, to name a few.
