In the recent month China appears to be the greater influence in travel and tourism industry by sending the Chinese tourists to the other nations like United Kingdom, United States, Japan, Korea and Greece. Now China launches a new global tourism group to rival World Travel & Tourism Council, a global forum for the travel and tourism industry.
The World Tourism Alliance debuted in Chengdu, China right under the nose of UNWTO during its 22nd General Assembly in the city.
That the alliance is important to China and came right from top leadership is evident. China’s Premier Li Keqiang sent a congratulatory message for its inauguration.
Now China is flexing its tourism influence to the world, as China launched a new global tourism organization that could challenge the existing global tourism forum.
This new Chinese global travel and tourism body- World Tourism Alliance is a latest watch dog with 89 founding members which include the international travel organisations, national tourism organisations, tourism companies and the research institutes. Here some of the members are from different nations like U.S., France, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Japan, and Brazil. This new travel body is based in Beijing.
World Tourism Alliance is now a major rival to the UN World Tourism Organization and the World Travel & Tourism Council.
The World Tourism Alliance will have a General Assembly. It acts as “the supreme authority,” and a board of directors and a secretariat with a secretary-general and subordinates. The working languages of World Tourism Alliance are Chinese, English, French, Russian, Arabic and Spanish.
World Tourism Alliance has the first elected chairman Duan Qiang, who is the president of Beijing Tourism Group and also the World Travel & Tourism Council’s vice chairman for China.
