According to an official data, the visitor spending across the UK has seen an extra £872m growth over the past year.
National tourism agency VisitBritain/VisitEngland showed that for every pound invested in tourism during the financial year 2016-2017, £20 of additional visitor spend was generated for the economy. These recent figure is in accord with the huge inbound tourism number reported last month.
In the first seven months of 2017, the UK saw a record number of 23.1 million overseas visits making it about 8% higher than the last year of the same period. Visitor spending rose £13.3bn or 9 per cent.
For the last quarter of this year, Visit Britain is predicting an increase of about 6% in overseas visit making it 39.7 million, with spending up by 14 per cent to £25.7bn by the end of this calendar year.
UK Minister for Tourism John Glen said that tourism contributes billions to the UK economy, supports millions of jobs and is the lifeblood for many communities across the country.
The inbound visit of the country has also grown tremendously and the tourist spending is also higher than ever proving the worth of the UK’s world-class attractions and innovative tourism services.
Inbound tourism has proved robust all year, largely driven by a dramatic slump in the value of the pound since the Brexit vote, especially against currencies such as the euro and US dollar. The first six months of this calendar year recorded 7 per cent high in domestic overnight holiday in England making it to a record 20.4 million; while the visitors spending has been £4.6bn, up 17 per cent, setting a new high for England tourism.
