The travel corridor of Toronto-Montreal has been identified as one of the strongest candidates for a unique Hyperloop system likely to minimize the travel time between these two cities from five hours to just about 39 minutes.

This route is the only Canadian winner out of the 10 global entries selected in a contest that had been sponsored by Hyperloop One based in Los Angeles.

Currently, they would be studying the plan to detect its commercial viability. Hyperloop is a specialized technology that is being promoted by its founder Elon Musk. The technology includes a special system of navigating passengers or cargo inside a cylindrical vehicle that accelerates through electric propulsion through a low-pressure tube that lifts above the track utilizing magnetic levitation.

The vehicles are expected to slide at airline speeds for long distances on account of ultra-low aerodynamic drag.

The route had been proposed by the Canadian wing of the U.S. engineering firm AECOM and it would be including a stop in Ottawa. This proposal suggests a trip from Toronto Ottawa would be consuming about 27 minutes. And, the Ottawa-Montreal leg would be taking 12 more minutes.

The next logical step would comprise extending the hyperloop system into the U.S., west to Detroit from Windsor, Ont., and east from Quebec to Niagara Falls and Buffalo and on towards Chicago, New York and also Boston.

It has added that connecting the Canadian ports to an extended network is likely to enable long-haul cargo deliveries to customers within a few hours instead of days.

The nine other winning entries comprise four in the United States, two in each of the United Kingdom and India and one in Mexico. Hyperloop One has also declared that it had struck a public-private partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation and AECOM that would start a feasibility study for a system in that state.
