Spanish tourism authorities are quite anxious amidst welfare concerns of a heritage site known as San Juan de Gaztelugatxe in the Basque region after as many as 75,000 tourists had visited its staircase that had been a prominent prop in the renowned movie Games of Thrones’s Dragonstone scenes.
Though there is no castle at San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, generated by CGI, there is a humble church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist.
Its beautiful winding steps have frequently been utilized as a significant backdrop in Thrones as Daenerys, Tyrion and Jon Snow strategy and also White Walkers. It was on these steps that Ser Davos had challenged Jon about his affection for Daenerys with one of the most memorable lines of the movie “I’ve noticed you staring at her good heart”.
Until this summer, San Juan had been luring attention merely from a modest section of religious visitors.
However, Spanish newspaper reports that in July nearly 2,500 tourists had descended on this site each day.
As per the local traditions, visitors should ring a bell that hangs above the church three times and make a wish as a lovely reward for climbing the steps. However, at present, officials are disturbed about the damage that the site is likely to suffer owing to the vast number of tourists, apparently, mostly fans of Games of Thrones movie, arriving here.
Now they are discussing the number of tourists permitted to visit the site and charge tourists to climb the steps.
