An evacuation program has been launched by Air Transat to ensure all its travellers are out of the Dominican Republic while another Category 5 hurricane is spiraling across the Caribbean.
Hurricane Maria has devastated Dominica island.
And, currently it is ready to pass close to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands late on Tuesday to early Wednesday.
Air Transat has mentioned that it would be sending eight aircrafts to Puerto Plata, Punta Cana and Samana. Three aircrafts are scheduled to arrive in Puerto Plata and Samana on Tuesday evening and five in Punta Cana on Wednesday morning. This evacuation procedure is effective regardless of the return date as indicated on the ticket of Air Transat.
This operation would permit nearly 2,200 passengers to be repatriated, as mentioned by the airline.
A tropical storm watch has been issued for a portion of the Dominican Republic and also Haiti. Other airlines have also declared plans to usher in home customers and allow air travellers to rebook their travel plans and cancelled flights on account of the hurricane.
Air Canana then announced that it is operating as many as five flights and this includes larger aircraft with a aim to bring customers home early from the impacted regions ahead of Hurricane Maria.
This is inclusive of the flights from Puerto Plata, Punta Cana and Samana in the Dominican Republic.
This carrier also announced that it has implemented a goodwill policy for customers whose itinerary comprises a flight that was impacted by the hurricane.
Sunwing meanwhile announced that all flights into Punta Cana and Puerto Rico have been suspended till 22ndSeptember.
This carrier has also mentioned that it has been arranging for flexible policies for customers with travel plans to these locales to rebook or alter destination and also a contingency plan would be activated if necessary, with an aim to deploy rescue flights to repatriate all customers in the Dominican Republic by Wednesday in advance of the potential landfall of the storm.
