The tourism industry of Washington D.C. has been witnessing a seventh straight year of record tourist arrivals, as the organization declared on Tuesday. It went on to state that the region was able to lure in as much as 22 million total tourists last year.
Muriel Bowser who is the mayor of Washington D.C. said that attracting 22 million every year is quite an achievement.
Various hotel and hospitality sectors are receiving the news amidst widespread applause. This robust growth period of tourism sector follows a great deal of speculation and debate over the travel ban imposed by the US President Donald Trump as well as the immigration policies that posed perils to international tourism.
Destination DC President and CEO Elliott Ferguson said that there were worries about how the global communities would respond to visiting the United States.
The overall number of tourists rushing to D.C. continued to witness a rise.
Having said that, international tourism industry slumped by 1.7% as per the statistics of Destination DC. But then, lower international numbers are a part of a popular trend in tourism markets all across the US. Ferguson also mentioned that his team, currently is working to lure more foreign tourists.
He added that at present, the current political scenario is being noticed to generate what he terms as ‘protest tourism’.
Ferguson feels that the inauguration weekend would not have led to historic hotel revenue and occupancy levels without the Women’s March. Therefore, the tourism industry of this region is quite optimistic about the near future and 2018 also is likely to see a positive scenario.
