Italian cruise operator Costa Cruises has restructured its fares into four categories ranging from no frill versions, basics to the deluxe range.
The cruise line, part of industry giant Carnival Corporation operates 15 ships. It announced the new pricing plan in North America this week after rolling it out earlier in core European markets. It will not apply to several Asia-based ships or world cruises.
Costa Cruises is not going to start charging for things that used to be free, with one exception.
The cheapest level of Costa Cruises is that the passenger will not able to choose a cabin.
Scott Knutson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Costa Cruises of North America, said that if there are any resemblances regarding the structure of the fare with the airlines is only coincidental.
He also added that the cruise operator wanted to charge the passengers for the services while they are giving the basic guarantees for the services.
Knutson said that the passengers need not to pay for what they do not take for the services. For an every services, the payment will be there.
