Despite airberlin’s filing for insolvency today, the Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH welcomes the fact that the airline is to fully maintain its air operations. At this point in time, it is important that the restructuring measures already put in place by airberlin itself continue to be carried forward. In this case, a major advantage is the fact that discussions with Lufthansa and an additional partner appear to be well-advanced and that the German government is ensuring the necessary funding until further notice.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “Airberlin is a very important partner for the Berlin airport location. We certainly have an interest in a long-term solution being found swiftly and that air operations can continue in a stable manner. It is important in such a situation that the handling and transport of passengers continue in a reliable fashion. The FBB shall lend any support to airberlin that may be required.”
The market share of airberlin passengers (including Niki) in Berlin between the periods of January and July of 2017 amounted to 28.2% (or 5.52 million passengers).
