Tilal Liwa Hotel, situated on the edge of Rub Al Khali Desert in Abu Dhabi’s Empty Quarter, joined the rest of the world in observing World Autism Awareness Day, aimed at raising awareness of autism in all levels of society.
Internationally recognized every year on the 2nd of April, Tilal Liwa Hotel was illuminated blue to join hundreds of iconic landmarks around the globe that supported the “Light It Up Blue” campaign, sponsored by Autism Speaks, to help raise awareness for more than 70 million people around the world with autism.
Khaled Sharabassy, General Manager, said: “Lighting our hotel blue is a symbol of our contribution to increasing acceptance for people with autism. We come together with the rest of the world in observing World Autism Awareness Day to increase awareness of autism and heighten our understanding and acceptance of children and adults with the disorder across all levels of society. We need to address this problem that is affecting not only the UAE but the rest of the world.”
The World Autism Awareness Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly encouraging member states to take measures to raise awareness about children with autism throughout the world. The day brings autism organization around the world to aid in things like research, diagnoses, treatment and overall awareness for those with the disorder such as understanding and eliminating negative stigma associated with autism.
Iconic landmarks such as the White House and the historic Rockefeller Center in New York City were lit up in blue to participate in the campaign.
