The chief executive officer at ICTS Hellas and executive vice president of ICTS Europe Panayiotis Kampouroglou declared that the number of cruise tourists passing through Greece is believed to face a sharp drop next year.

Already, the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) has projected a 20% decrease in cruise tourist traffic in Greece this season.

Now, Kampouroglou has mentioned that as per the latest available data, the cruise tourism sector would witness a further 20% slump next year. He said that the rebound in Greek tourism is probably not possible as long as there are security issues in Turkey.

Some of the major cruise operators have taken Turkey off their itineraries this year and would be keeping their distance next year as well.

As a consequence, cruise passenger visitors at the Greek ports where the cruise liners used to drop anchor on their way to Turkey would be much lower, too. Kampouroglou said that there is a rising interest in cruise tourism around the shores of western Greece, along with scheduled stops in Italy and also in Albania.

Andreas Stylianopoulos who is the SETE cruise tourism representative and head of Navigator said that he feels that next year, the cruise tourism would continue its downward drift.

Stylianopoulos said that efforts to achieve a recovery of Greek tourism are on.
