Birmingham witnesses record number of tourists


Birmingham welcomed the highest number of visitors in the year 2016, with tourist numbers that reached up to 39 million, and the tourism revenues hitting an all-time high of £6.5 billion.

Tourism in this part of the world has triggered the creation of a large number of full-time jobs.

Currently, Birmingham boasts of as many as 70,365 jobs. And, the figures have been released by Marketing Birmingham’s research arm that is the Regional Observatory and tourism research body known as the Global Tourism Solutions (GTS).

The Leader of Birmingham City Council, Clllr John Clancy stated that this city continues to lure in a large number of visitors from all across the globe. This, in turn, is boosting both the regional economy and the overall economy of the region, giving rise to employment opportunities for the regional inhabitants.

Clancy also said that Birmingham saw more than £1 billion worth of investment in the city centre alone last year.

Neil Rami, the Chief Executive of Marketing Birmingham said that the fusion of a prospering leisure tourism destination and also a spectacular physical landscape has confirmed Birmingham as the leading English city outside the capital for its quality of life.
