We are living longer but are we healthier?

Most babies born in 1900 did not live past age 50. Since the beginning of the 21st century, we are living longer. Life expectancy at birth now exceeds 83 years in Japan—the current leader—and is at least 81 years in several other countries.  But though we are living longer, not all of us are living healthier.
Health Adjusted Life Expectancy (HALE), or healthy life expectancy, is a metric used by the World Health Organization to measure the number of years a person can expect to live in good health, taking social and economic factors into account alongside disease and disability rates.
Medigo, a startup from Berlin that has built a marketplace to facilitate medical travel worldwide, studies healthy life expectancy and creates an infographic shown below. For more details for each region visit the Medigo blog post.
Medigo deducts healthy life expectancy from actual life expectancy and finds the average amount of years someone can expect to live in bad health – or 'Bad Health Years'.
