The British government follows the U.S. government and has announced a cabin baggage ban for electronic devices larger than mobile phones on direct passenger flights to the UK from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. The ban is a copy of the ban announced by the U.S. earlier on Tuesday; only difference is that some UK airlines will be affected from the ban, while no U.S. carriers affected from their ban.
U.S. airlines aren’t affected with the new ban on electronics since none fly non-stop to U.S. from any of those countries. However, 6 UK carriers will be affected from its government's travel ban. They are British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2.com, Monarch, Thomas Cook, and Thomson. Other international carriers that will be affected are Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Atlas Global Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Egyptair, Royal Jordanian, Tunis Air and Saudia.
The ban will affect passengers who booked cheaper, hand luggage-only tickets, but would now have to pay to check a bag in.
Turkish Airlines will be one of the hardest hit by the new ban since thousands of passengers use the carrier every day to fly from long-haul destinations via Istanbul.
