The residents of Queensland Outback have started luring a record number of tourists who are keen to explore the far-flung attractions of the state thereby leading to a major tourism boom.

The region has been drawing a large number of domestic travellers too, that witnessed a jump of nearly 13% in the year to September.

Among the people who had been travelling solely for the purpose of holiday, the number was even higher with an increase of about 27%. Outback contains a few of the bucket list tourism essentials of Queensland that includes the spiritual birthplace of the Australian Labor Party, the historic tree of Knowledge of Barcaldine, the Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach as well as the Birdsville Races.

Though a heavy rainfall had marred the Birdsville Races last year, the Big Red Bash last year of this town had been a spectator to the biggest crowd ever.

In fact, this event had been instrumental in pouring a handsome amount of cash into the economy of the towns in the tourism trail. Over $341 million had been spent by domestic travellers in Outback last year that marked an increase of nearly 10%. The figures were quite interesting for the tourism operators in Queensland’s largest and remotest region.

Thought the tourism figures were quite positive for the Outback, certain other regions had experienced major slumps. Daniel Gschwind, the chief executive of Queensland Tourism Industry Council said that the people of Queensland would be stunned to note the tourism performance in their own state.

He added that Queensland is a large state that is well endowed with a variety of attractions and things that are waiting to be explored from the point of view of tourists.

The latest research data from Tourism Research Australia has pointed to the fact that though a majority of the regions have witnessed a substantial increase in the international tourist arrivals, the number of Queenslanders exploring the locales have actually dropped.

The regional tourists of Queensland who have been heading towards the state’s tropical north had declined by almost 14% and the number visiting the region of Mackay had dropped by 16%.
