Growing tourism boosts New Zealand’s businesses


The flourishing tourism sector on New Zealand is going a long way in enabling the growth of the local businesses in the region of Tuatapere in this country. George Harpur, the councilor of Southland District said that the tourism figures were sharply on the increase in this part of the world.

People all across the world were lured to New Zealand, thanks to its breaktaking sceneries, walking tracks and natural beauty.

Tuatapere was developing as a popular tourism hotspot with multiple attractions that have been responsible in drawing an overwhelming number of tourists to this area. George Harpur said that an increased number of travellers have been visiting this area, especially in groups of threes and fours to seek great country experiences.

He added that some of the popular destinations comprise Clifton Suspension Bridge, Monkey Island, Hump Ridge Track and so on.

A recent survey conducted by Heritage New Zealand discovered that as many as 71,000 visitors had set foot on the Clifton Bridge in the period between October 2015 and September 2016. Steve Canny who is the Venture Southland manager of strategic projects and business said that during January, about 3281 people had made trips to the bridge in a single day. He said that Clifton Bridge is among the heritage icons of Southland.

Also, there was a 15% transition towards independent travellers, most of whom have been driving along the Southern Scenic Route.

Harpur therefore feels that there is an increased opportunity at present for the development of businesses and employment in this region. Stephan Crack, the Tuatapere Community Board member and businessman said that the tourism sector was growing substantially in the region and this had given rise to many brand new businesses, including a portable café, jet boat ride and a new tavern.

The largest markets for the local businesses was visitors from Europe.
