Michael Belnavis, the chairman of NCC (National Cruise Council) has declared that Jamaica has evolved as a leading cruise destination that has been attracting some of the largest vessels of the entire world.
He cited the example of the visit of Carnival Cruise Lines mega liner, known as Carnival Vista that arrived on 30th November.
The visit of this cruise ship was just after a period of eight days after the Harmony of the Seas of Royal Caribbean that is the largest cruise ship of the world visited this part of the world. It visited Falmouth Port that is present in Trelawny.
Mr. Belnavi said that the cruise liners are quite choosy about where they would be sending their vessels.
He went on to add that the very fact Jamaica was welcoming some of the most reputable cruise liners proves that Jamaica is truly an achiever with regards to its cruise industry.
The Carnival Vista cruise ship, the biggest vessel of the world’s largest cruise company known as Carnival Cruise Line was launched on 28th April.
This cruise vessel has a capacity of carrying as much as 3,954 passengers.
Right now, this vessel is making a voyage on the West Caribbean route and it made its inaugural stop in Ocho Rios last Wednesday. Mr. Belnavis added that the fusion of important ports like Falmouth, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay has firmly positioned Jamaica as a crucial cruise locale in this area.
He has also declared that PAJ or the Port Authority of Jamaica has started playing a significant role in conducting good infrastructure work in some of the important cruise-shipping towns in order to develop this cruise destination.
Ravi Daswani, a key member of the Duty-Free Association of Jamaica asked stakeholders to continue their best efforts to make sure that their tourism product makes greater achievements.
