According to the Federal Statistics Office in Germany, the number of international overnight stays in accommodation establishments with ten beds or more during the period January to September this year increased to about 63 million which is a 1.6 percent over same period the previous year.
Petra Hedorfer, Chairman of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), explains, “Travel trends are changing worldwide. Despite declining numbers in some months of the year, the volume turns strong from source markets, thus being a stabilizing factor in the end of the third quarter. The European countries represent a growth of 1.9 percent, while growth in the Transatlantic market has stalled.”

The ten most important European source markets for Germany’s inbound tourism accounts for positive figures by the end of the third quarter. Germany’s main markets are-
The Netherlands (+ 1.8%), Switzerland (+3.3%). UK falters slightly due to Brexit impact (+1.2%). The only fall in the top 10 market during the year is Italy (-4.1%).
From Sweden has 1,413,794 overnight stays were registered from January to September 2016, representing an increase of 0.9 percent compared with the same period last year. Germany’s most important international source market, the United States, generated a significant increase at 3.3 percent.
