September 2016 YTD U.S. - International Air Passenger Traffic up Six Percent

Total International Traffic up Seven Percent in September 
Europe up Five Percent, Asia Eight Percent and Middle East 13 Percent YTD
China Air Arrivals up 13 percent in September

International non-stop air traffic to/from the U.S. (1)totaled 168.4 million passengers through September 2016, a six percent increase over the September 2015 year-to-date period.
U.S. citizen travel (78.5 million) was up almost nine percent and composed 47 percent of all air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (89.9 million) increased by four percent with their market share at 53 percent.
U.S. airlines carried 82.3 million passengers, up three percent, with their share down to 49 percent. Foreign flags carried 86.1 million passengers, up nine percent from same period 2015.

The following, overseas, Canada and Mexico regions are components of international:
Overseas air traffic accounted for 124.9 million passengers, 74 percent of all international, and grew by six percent.
U.S. citizen travel (56.9 million) was up seven percent composing 46 percent of overseas air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (68.0 million) were up by five percent with their market share at 54 percent.
U.S. airlines carried 58.4 million passengers, up three percent, their share at 47 percent. Foreign flags carried 68.5 million passengers, up nine percent from September 2015 YTD.

Estimated capacity (401,578 seats) on non-stop flights from PRC was up 13.5 percent in September, exceeding the total inbound non-stop market passenger growth of 12.8 percent.
Chinese carriers increased average weekly frequencies from 155 to 188, up 22 percent.
U.S. carriers increased average weekly frequencies from 134 to 137, up two percent.

North American markets accounted for 26 percent of U.S. international air traffic flows:
Canadian air traffic accounted for 22.2 million passengers, 13 percent of all international traffic, and increased by three percent.
U.S. citizen travel (7.4 million) increased 14 percent and composed 33 percent of air traffic. Canadian, and other foreign national citizen air travelers transiting through Canada (14.8 million), decreased by two percent. Market share was at 67 percent.
U.S. flags carried 8.5 million passengers, down over five percent from last year, with their share dropping to 38 percent. Foreign flags carried 13.6 million passengers, up nine percent.

Mexico air traffic accounted for 21.3 million passengers, 13 percent of all international traffic, and was up eight percent.
U.S. citizen travel (14.2 million) increased 12 percent and composed 67 percent of air traffic. Mexicans, and other foreign national air travelers (7.1 million) transiting through Mexico, was flat, with market share 33 percent.
U.S. flags carried 15.4 million passengers, up almost eight percent from last year, and their share slipped to 72 percent. Foreign flags carried 5.9 million passengers, up 10 percent increasing share to 28 percent.
