NEW YORK—Helm Equities has partnered with 21c Museum Hotels to bring the brand to HELM Miami, a mixed-use development project in Miami’s Design District.
21c Museum Hotel will serve as a focal point for HELM Miami, a destination that will include a sculpture garden, expansive green space and more than 325,000 sq. ft. of interior space featuring shops, restaurants and collaborative workspace for those in art, fashion, design and other creative industries. The property will also offer on-site parking for visitors, guests and tenants.
The hotel's design program includes a contemporary art museum open free-of-charge to the public. The museum will have rotating exhibitions curated primarily from the 21c collection, which includes painting, sculpture, photography, film, performance, video and digital art. The collection will feature works by both emerging and established artists from all over the world. The property will also showcase large-scale and often interactive permanent installations in unexpected locations, according to the company. 21c will also offer a variety of cultural programs that are free and open to the public, including artist lectures, live performances, film screenings and poetry readings.
The property will also include a boutique hotel with approximately 135 rooms, a rooftop pool terrace, bar and lounge, and art-filled meeting and event spaces. A chef-driven food and beverage concept that partners with local and regional farmers and producers is also planned.
New York-based architecture and interior design firm Deborah Berke Partners will lead the design team. This will be the firm’s tenth 21c Museum Hotel project since designing the company’s first property in downtown Louisville, KY, in 2006.
HELM Miami sits on two acres of land and was acquired by Ayal Horovits and David Escava of Helm Equities in 2014. HELM Miami is the largest undeveloped parcel in the Miami Design District, according to the company. A hub of Miami’s arts and culture, the Design District includes art galleries, the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, the De La Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space, Locust Projects and other cultural centers.
Ayal Horovits, one of the founding partners at Helm Equities, said, “Tremendous thought went into identifying a hotel brand that fuses art, fashion, entertainment and hospitality all under one roof and that will build upon the exciting and dynamic growth and activity we’re seeing in the district. The brand will bring spectacular life and excitement to the property and will complement the type of retail and office tenants targeted for the balance of the project.”
