Uptown Minneapolis is getting its very first hotel. The name of the hotel is Graves Hospitality and it broke ground on Thursday on its 124-room Moxy Uptown that is located at 1121 W. Street.
After the hotel is opened in the year 2017, it would be a six-storied hotel. Moreover, it would be the very first hotel in the neighborhood of Uptown. Also, it would be the first Moxy by Marriott brand that is present in Minnesota, as specified by Ben Graves, the CEO and president of Graves Hospitality.
Graves said that the brand of Moxy aims to cater to the leisure travellers who admire all the excellent amenities both within and outside the hotel.
He then went on to add that modern businessmen prefer to reside in a place which is a nerve centre of all activities and like to travel to work rather than staying in a business hub and then travelling for deriving some recreation. This hotel project has been designed by Collage Architects that is based in St. Paul.
The developer of the hotel received city approval for this project in February.
But then, a few residents who live close to this hotel project had appealed against the approval of the project by the Minneapolis Planning Commission. However, the City Council passed the rule in favor of the developer. Earlier during this year, Ben Graves had cancelled the proposal of nine stories in the hotel that was supposed to have 144 rooms. This was after a few neighbours complained about the height of the hotel and its effect on parking.
