Travel cost remains the biggest fear for British young travellers

Since the UK’s decision to leave the EU on 23 June, there has been 22% spike in Europe trip bookings as reported by Contiki.  The results are suggestive of the fact that group travel model is a popular choice for the Gen-Y travellers. It also means that the millennials and young travellers are interested to get the most of Britain’s current EU status before any new policies take into place following Brexit.

With a survey done with 2000 people from 18 to 35 year old UK residents, Contiki was curious to find out the effect of the Brexit result on the travel plans of British millennials.

It was found that one in ten young travellers considered bringing their EU travel plans forward in case of any restrictions made under Article 50. Approximately, 12% of the lot wanted to travel more frequently within the EU in the coming couple of years.

The highest concern amongst the young British travellers, about 49% of it, is about the travel cost. British Pound seeing a major turbulence in the last couple of months is what triggered the fear. An inclusive approach to travel feels a safer and more cost-effective option for young travellers post-Referendum.

Those who have changed their trip maps have long haul countries and non-EU European destinations on their list.  Iceland topped the list (15%), followed by the USA (13%), Montenegro (also 13%), and Norway (12%).
