A tourism summit will be held on November 9 in Wellington, which will bring together various leaders from $30 billion tourism industry’s public and private sectors. This one-day summit will be organized by Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA).
New Zealand tourism industry can get to learn from the successes and failures of Australia’s mining industry for retaining public support in this TIA tourism summit. Chris Roberts, TIA Chief said the program will feature overseas and domestic experts who will speak on ways to push the boundaries and improve the industry.
Among eminent presenters will be Bruce Harvey, an Adjunct Professor at Queensland University and Maud Olofsson, Chair of Swedish tourism association Visita. Google’s Travel Account leader Michelle Allen and Weta Workshop’s Rik Athorne will speak regarding innovations in the digital world and how they can improve tourism.
Tourism goals and annual tourism revenues for the next nine years will also be discussed in the summit. Mr. Roberts said that a new online tool that has been developed will be launched at the summit which will encourage domestic tourism and the Kiwis to travel the year round and New Zealand needs the right infrastructure in the right places for a sustained and strong tourism growth. This tourism summit is supported by Westpac, ServiceIQ, Lincoln University, Wellington Airport, Department of Conservation, Deloitte, New Zealand School of Tourism, Amora Hotel and Smartpay.
