Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is further expanding its sports sponsorship and involvement. The carrier will be the Official Airline of the 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, which will be held in St. Moritz, Southeast Switzerland, from 6 to 19 February.
The announcement was made at the championships’ kick-off event on Saturday (8 October), which was co-hosted by the event’s organizers and Swiss-Ski, and which included a scenic flight over the championship venue in SWISS’s new Bombardier CS100.
SWISS’s involvement in the event will include prize draws among skiing fans for SWISS flight vouchers and admission tickets. There will also be SWISS crew members on hand at the award ceremonies in the finish area, and further SWISS flying personnel looking after the competitors in the SWISS Athletes’ Lounge. Further off-piste highlights will include spectacular overflights by SWISS aircraft. And SWISS will also be supporting the Youth Camp project of the event’s organizers by flying tomorrow’s ski stars to St. Moritz from all over the world.
“As The Airline of Switzerland, we are extremely pleased to be playing such a major part in our country’s biggest winter sports event,” says Markus Binkert, SWISS’s Chief Commercial Officer. “And through our involvement we’re determined to help take this huge international event to further heights.”
SWISS’s involvement with the 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz supplements the airline’s existing winter sports partnerships with Swiss-Ski and the International Lauberhorn Races in Wengen. SWISS is also a long-standing supporter of further key international sports events in Switzerland such as golf’s Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana and the Weltklasse Zürich athletics meeting. The company is closely involved in Swiss sport at the national level, too, as Official Airline of Swiss Ice Hockey, Swiss Athletics, the Swiss Handball Federation, Swiss Olympic and Swiss Paralympic. And it became Official Airline of the Swiss national soccer team in May of this year.
