The total represents a 5.0% decrease in rooms Under Contract compared with September 2015. Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
The region reported 27,359 rooms in 172 projects In Construction for the month, which is a 10.2% decrease in year-over-year comparisons.
Three Chain Scale segments accounted for 20.0% or more of the rooms Under Contract in the region: Upper Midscale (20.2% with 12,904 rooms); Upscale (20.1% with 12,827 rooms); and Midscale (20.0% with 12,747 rooms).
Specifically in the In Construction phase, only the Upscale segment (21.7% with 5,924 rooms) accounted for 20.0% or more of the region’s total.

Caribbean/Mexico hotel pipeline for September 2016

The total represents an 18.5% increase in rooms Under Contract compared with September 2015. Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
The region reported 13,962 rooms in 90 projects In Construction for the month, which is an 18.7% increase in year-over-year comparisons.
Among Chain Scale segments, the Upscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms Under Contract (23.5% with 7,678 rooms).
The Luxury segment accounted for the largest percentage of rooms In Construction (24.2% with 3,374 rooms).
