A 24-hour general strike and a walk-out at Pisa airport caused passenger chaos in Italy throughout Friday.
EasyJet initiated a warning that the Pisa flights would be cancelled but did not expect the national industrial action to affect the rest of its schedule across Italy. Alitalia has cancelled a “small number” of services but did not specific the level of affected flights on the same day. Although the strike did not cause any particular inconvenience to Alitalia’s travellers but the airline was forced to cancel some flights scheduled on October 21. The airline said that it would re-book its affected customers onto other flights or offer ticket refund. British Airways did not change any schedule of flights but cautioned that passengers may face baggage processing delays on arrival. There was also some predicted impact on the management of flight departures.
EasyJet released one of its statements saying that did everything possible to minimise the impact and see that no travel plans are hampered too much. EasyJet did not expect any impact to their flights from the national strike across Italy.
Public transport, however were affected across Italy and thus customers were requested to look for alternative arrangements. Rome is particularly badly affected by public transport strikes, with the A and C Metro lines completely stopped, along with the Termini-Centocelle rail route.
