Dolomites’ Wieser Family-run Hotel Ciasa Salares is proud to introduce its winter experiences, designed to deliver an adventurous yet luxury holiday.

  • FAT BIKE EXPERIENCE

To make the most of its mountainous location, the Wieser Family has launched the Ciasa Salares’ Fat Bike Experience on the Dolomites, one of the UNESCO’s most impressive World Heritage Sites. With its stunning backdrop, there is a new adventure on each of the plentiful routes suited to both sports and cycling enthusiasts. Guests who participate in the Fat Bike experience will also receive a personalised Ciasa Salares' Fat Bike Experience’s jacket, designed by cycling clothing brand Huez (limited edition). The Jacket provides the latest in fabric technology to enhance performance, but does so with uncompromised elegance as seen on Matches Fashion. The Ciasa Salares’ Fat Bike Experience is the ultimate winter biking activity for riders and winter sports enthusiasts who are looking to have fun on the snow.

More about Fat Biking
A fat bike is characterised by ultra wide tyres of over 4" (standard MTB's run 2" tyres), which can be ridden at very low pressures – down to 10 psi, or under. This offers exceptional grip and contact to easily traverse versatile terrain such as snow or sand.

  • SEALSKIN SKIING EXPERIENCE

This year, Ciasa Salares introduces also a Ski Mountaineering experience, a forgotten technique that allows for uphill — as well as downhill — skiing on the Dolomites pistes to add ease and fun to the trip down the mountain. This popular winter sport involves hiking through backcountry on skis fastened with a synthetic fabric that resembles sealskin and grips the snow on the way up. An experienced guide will ensure guests can enjoy the ski de randonnée experience at its best, taking in the beauty of the Dolomites whilst enjoying a simple, powerful workout whilst skiing in near isolation.

More about Sealskin Skiing
As seal fur lies flat in one direction, original climbing skins were made from sealskin to ensure skis would only move in one direction. The skin tied onto the skis with metal clasps to allow skiers to climb – essential during the pre-lifts days! Today, skins are made with a synthetic fabric that works in the same way, sticking to the skis with a glue-like substance. The technicalities are minimal: when going uphill, a binding releases the heel to allow for walking; on the way down, the skins come off and the heel stays put.
