“To travel the world on up to 28 different airlines, with a network of 1,300 destinations to choose from, all included on a single ticket is a unique product that only an alliance of airlines can offer”, said Star Alliance’s Vice-Chairman of Commerce and Business Development, Horst Findeisen. Around a decade ago we became the first airline alliance to offer round-the-world fares, which are now our most popular product. Seeking to meet our customers’ wishes for more personalised travel choices, we have recently launched themed itineraries, which we expect will serve as inspiration for all travellers to book the round-the-world trip of their dreams.”
The new themed itineraries include a number of choices, including World Food, World Wonders, Architecture Hotspots, Nature Trail, Aquatic Wonders, Ramsar Wetlands, Natural Wonders, Great Hotels, Sports Hotspots, Wine Tasting, Romantic Journey and Luxury Lifestyle.
To support the launch of the new Round-the-World themed fares, Star Alliance and Marriott International arranged for seven travel bloggers to try out our themed itineraries and write about their journey. Star Alliance provided the transport, while Marriott provided the hotel accommodation. Mark Wiens of Migrationology is tasting culinary delights from all over the world. Megan and Mike Jerrard of Mapping Megan have set out on a romantic journey. Justin Carmack of True Nomad is diving the world’s oceans. Scott Eddy it tasting wines on six continents. The Instagrammer Michael Schultz is photographing architectural wonders, while Karen Day of Cool Hunting is on a Professional Gap Year, and, last but not least, Oneika-the-Traveller is exploring the wonders of the world. More reports about these journeys, tips of travelling around the world and more suggestions are also published in the Marriott TRAVELER , Marriott’s online magazine with live reports about the world’s best destinations, bringing to the centre of the action locals who can share what is special about their cities, from cuisine to culture, introducing unique personalities and experiences that give voice to each location and more than enough reasons to visit it.
To make it easier to book one of these new inspirational trips we have improved our Round-the-World online booking tool, “Book and Fly”. New features now allow potential travellers to choose to depart on their chosen themed itinerary from the airport closest to their home. Customers can also now choose to share their elected itinerary on social media, and can also add, change or remove their destinations. Customers can plan their Round-the-World trip from the comfort of home, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, or if they prefer they can contact a Star Alliance member company or their travel agent to book and purchase Round-the-World tickets.
