Passenger traffic to Paros tripled in August, the first month of operation for the new airport which can now accommodate larger aircraft. In August 2016, Olympic Air carried 18,725 passengers – triple the number for the same month in 2015.
Olympic Air supported the operation of the new airport with larger aircraft, more frequent flights and a direct connection to Thessaloniki. As part of the effort to boost Paros’ potential as a destination, more than 10,000 seats were offered at fares of €39 and €55 from Paros and Athens respectively.AEGEAN and Olympic Air Managing Director Dimitris Gerogiannis commented: “In the first month of operation of the new Paros airport, we have already tripled traffic and we are only seeing the early indications of the potential for this destination.
With sufficient time for pre-sales and the connectivity with AEGEAN’s international network from Athens, the results in 2017 will be much more impressive. The successful cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority on the passenger terminal project, with funding and supervision by our company completing it in just 102 days, is already paying off. We are proud to contribute on unleashing the tourist potential of the island of Paros.” Mr Gerogiannis added: “Looking back on the summer of 2016 for our entire network, after a difficult start with a weak May and June that negatively impacted the results for the first half of the year, July and August progressed satisfactorily both in load factors and traffic growth. At the same time, as the season draws to a close, September and October are shaping up positively given the pre-bookings in both existing as well as new destinations.”
It is noted that once the Greek State completed the new runway in Paros, Olympic Air provided funding and project supervision to complete the new passenger terminal, along with other infrastructure works at the new Paros airport.
