Travel between India and South Africa is set to become much simpler from now onwards thanks to the easing of visa restrictions by Africa. Jacob Zuma, the President of South Africa had announced this news on Friday at a meeting at Union Buildings that was attended by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India.
Jacob Zuma assured the Indian Prime Minister that the visa process of Indians traveling to South Africa would be made simpler and added that South Africa is a great tourist locale. He said that this decision would make India-South Africa travel easier.
The President of South Africa said that Indians would be now capable of applying for visa for a period of 10 years, among many other things. However, officials stated that South Africa was reluctant to relax the visa restrictions to a large extent.
One of the officials said that quite often it has been observed that Indians who visit South Africa do not return.
The reason for this is the fact that one finds a large number of career opportunities in South Africa as compared to that in India.
The officials also fear that terrorists would end up traveling to South Africa via India if they relax the visa restrictions too much.
Narendra Modi has asserted that South Africans would be able to apply for e-visas from February onwards this year simply with the click of a button. Business travelers and tourists would be able to enjoy this facility.
He also said that he was grateful to South Africa for easing the visa rules for business travelers from India.
Modi and Zuma said that they were both eager to expand two-way tourism and interactions between the people of these two nations with an aim to provide solutions to issues associated with immigration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi admired South Africa’s initiative to provide business visas to businessmen from BRICS nations for 10 years.
