The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Bahamas has issued a travel warning to its citizens to be cautious while traveling to the US following the tension in some American cities stirred up by the recent shootings of black men by the police.
In its latest statement, the government of this Caribbean nation emphasized that the citizens of Bahamas traveling to America should steer clear of public demonstrations and crowds in the US. It also advised travelers to be extremely careful while interacting with the police personnel there, and cooperate with them instead of being confrontational.
The warning had been issued in advance of the independence day of the Bahamas on 11th July, during which several Bahamians tend to travel to the US for celebrating this public holiday.
This travel warning comes following the recent shootings of two African-American black men in St. Paul, Minnesota and Baton Rouge, St. Louisiana and the killings of as many as five police officers during a rally in the region of Dallas. Apart from these killings, the incident wounded seven other people, making this the most fatal day in the US ever since the terrorist attacks on 11th September, 2001.
The incident sparked off widespread protests in the US in different cities of the country on Saturday.
The statement released by the authorities of Bahamas advised its citizens to focus on the news announcement and public notices that were issued there.
However, this is not the first time that government of a nation has issued a warning against traveling to the US. The Foreign Office of UK had cautioned its LGBT populace from traveling to the US, following a controversial legislation that was passed in Mississippi and Carolina.
