Guests at Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, Madinat Jumeirah and Jumeirah Beach Hotel will soon be travelling between the resorts in one of 101 new luxurious golf buggies decorated with artwork inspired by the UAE’s heritage and culture.

The project is the result of collaboration between Jumeirah Group, Dubai Culture and Brand Dubai, which sees the new fleet of vehicles featuring the artwork of four female Emirati artists and one UAE-based artist.
Unveiling the fleet of buggies, Margaret Paul, General Manager of Madinat Jumeirah, said: “With a beach stretching more than 2 kilometres long, our new fleet of luxurious six-seater golf buggies offer guests the chance to travel around Madinat Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah and Jumeirah Beach Hotel, in ultimate comfort and style.
“The provision of 101 new golf buggies provides a unique canvas and we quickly realized that this could be used to support H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision for Dubai to become an open air museum by 2020. Forming a partnership with Dubai Culture and Brand Dubai, we have worked with some extremely talented artists to deliver artistic concepts inspired by the traditions of the UAE and Dubai. The result is a unique experience that brings a combination of modern artwork and the heritage of the country to the guests.”
Eman Al Raesi’s colourful work is a mixture between pop surrealism and cubism with a hint of expressionism. Her main inspiration is the local UAE women and masters of modernism including Matisse, Picasso and Van Gogh. Also inspired by Emirati women, artist Hessa Al Awadhi used a pop-art inspired pattern showcasing the Arabic women’s love for traditional henna art.
Sheikha Bin Dhaher’s illustration depicts the native species of fish found off the coast of the UAE and the local fish markets. And the artwork from Sheikha Wafa Bint Hasher Al Maktoum was derived from exploring relationships among shapes and intertwining figures using black, silver and white to enhance different dimensions, to show sharp contrast, and to mirror images of various elements that surround the artist – in this case camels.
UAE-based Majid Alyousef’s art work is inspired from the three fingers hand sign of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum featuring the words; Win, Victory, and Love. The Arabic calligraphy artwork forms a composition representing the dynamics and movement of the city and its quest toward its objectives.
Eman Al Raesi, Sheikha Bin Dhaher, and Hessa Al Awadhi are UAE based artists who have been empowered by Creatopia (www.creatopia.ae). This digital government portal created by Dubai Culture is dedicated to creative and cultural industry professionals, aiming to connect like-minded peers and expose them to relevant projects and initiatives.
Moza Suwaidan, Director Projects & Events, Dubai Culture and Art Authority said: “Dubai Culture is delighted to collaborate with our partners at Jumeirah Group and Brand Dubai in bringing the 101 golf buggies project to life. By providing our artists with such platforms, we are looking to further the aims of the Dubai Plan 2021, in order to establish Dubai as a definitive cultural destination and a fast-growing global arts hub. These unique visual designs by the UAE’s creative community bring art to the attention of both residents and visitors in innovative ways, using public objects as a canvas. We are confident that the 101 project will positively influence people’s perceptions of the city, by shining a spotlight on the Emirate’s flourishing arts scene.”
Shaima Al Suwaidi, Executive – Innovation, Brand Dubai said: ”Our collaboration with Jumeirah Group and Dubai Culture in this unique art project is aligned with our broader effort to implement public art projects in Dubai that inspire creativity and innovation. As part of realising the vision to transform the city into an open-air art museum, Brand Dubai is keen to work with both public and private sector organisations, as well as artists, on projects that can enhance the cultural and artistic ambience of the city and bring out its unique character.
The golf buggies have been designed exclusively for Jumeirah by Danish manufacturer Garia, the market leader in luxury golf buggies. The construction of the buggies – which are 100% electric – utilizes wind turbines to generate 39% of the power required for the vehicles’ construction. Each buggy is comprised of more than 1,700 pieces.
