Denmark’s happiest city Aarhus in top 10 European destinations of 2016

Touted as the happiest city on earth, Aarhus is one great destination to explore. Adding the cherry on the cake is the listing by Lonely Planet which places this Danish city in one of 10 European destinations to visit in 2016.

Diverse, modern and fun, Aarhus also happens to be the European Capital of Culture 2017. A visit to Aarhus’ art galleries, cosy Latin Quarter or the Old Town will show you just why Aarhus’ residents, and visitors, are so happy.

Aarhus is a dynamic city on the Jutland peninsula. From here, beach, harbour and forest are all only a 15-minute bike ride away. The area around Aarhus also offers the biggest concentration of attractions in Denmark. Must-see sights, such as the Jelling Rune Stones, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are all in easy reach, as well as fjords and beaches to explore.

Being young at heart means that the city can offer you a wide spectrum of cultural experiences, from nightlife, cultural events and shopping to the best restaurants in the region. Aarhus is also home to popular festivals, such as Food Festival, SPOT Festival and NorthSide Music Festival.

It also has some distinctive art museums which are worth a visit. You can also visit the summer residence of HM The Queen in Aarhus.
