Football fans may be in for some disruption in their travel plans as French national airline Air France has announced a four-day strike. About 30 percent flights have been cancelled on Saturday.
However the airline has assured that the cities who are hosting the tournament will be prioritised. The strike has been called by the pilot’s union who are insisting that the government scrap off new labour laws that will make it easier to hire and fire people.
The conditions are quite dismal in France since the end of the last month with petrol pumps running dry with protestors blocking oil refineries. The rubbish will not be collected in Paris till Wednesday; train service has been resumed however after nine day strike.
The pilot union has decided to continue the strike from Saturday to Tuesday. The Company’s Chief Executive Frederic Gagey said that the disruption will be minimised. They promised that they will look after the Euro Tournaments. The disruptions will cost the airline €5m (£3.9m) a day. Nearly seven million fans are expected to arrive in the 10 French cities.
President Francois Hollande has warned unions against disrupting the tournament. He has also requested all members of unions that are on strike to accept responsibility to see that the popular festival runs smoothly without any disturbance.
