ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents) creates an online course designed to help guide individuals interested in pursuing a career as a travel agent.You can will learn about the travel industry in general, as well as tips on how to begin a new and exciting career as a travel advisor.
"ASTA receives a phone call or a Facebook message every day from someone asking how they can become a travel agent," said Zane Kerby, ASTA President and CEO. "We thought 'who better than ASTA' to offer a course that will also help our member agencies bring new talent in the industry."
For only $25, anyone can take the "Becoming a Travel Agent" online course. This tutorial is designed for people who are entrepreneurial in spirit, who have great social interaction and interpersonal skills and have always wanted to play a key role in this exciting yet complex industry. This course explains the skills needed, explains the dynamics of the travel industry and the multiple travel agency business models and where to find training options.
The course is presented by Amanda Cecil, Ph.D, CMP, Undergraduate Program Director & Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism, Conventions and Event management at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. A 44-page guide accompanies the course, and will open new worlds to those wishing to get into the business.
In further efforts to spread the word about what it means to be a travel agent and entice more to enter the business, ASTA will hold a free webinar "Becoming a Travel Agent—A Great Career Choice" on May 17, 2-3 p.m. EDT, that already has more than 400 people registered. The webinar, led by Heather Kindred of Travel Leaders of Tomorrow, will walk participants through what it means to start a career as a travel agent.
