The ever scenic Republic of Cuba resides in the conjunction of the Caribbean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Cuba, which is considered to be the largest island in entire Caribbean, is presently preparing for the celebration of 114 years of independence on 20th May.
Although the younger generation stays in the festive mood, they barely know about the proper historic event. In the other hand, the older generation, who either witnessed the day or who anyhow got in touch with the event, still remembers and expresses gratitude by celebrating this day with a hint of patriotism in the heart.
Prior to 15th century, Cuba was populated by Amerindians until Spain invaded and took their freedom away. In 1898 the Spanish-American war started, which cleared the path for Cuba’s independence in 1902 on 20th May. Cuba remained an independent country till 1959, but right after that, until now, Cuba remained under the rule of the Communist party.
The celebration starts by raising the national flag and it gets followed by various cultural events, parades, processions, fireworks, and food. People pay their tribute to the national flag and the festivity continues by preparing and having traditional meals with friends and family.
Even though Cuba does not celebrate the day in a majestic way, tourists must try and visit Cuba on this day, because nothing is more appealing than a Caribbean tropical island which is already in the mood for celebration.
