Saving valuable time for Transperth passengers, the West Australia Government will invest $1.4 million in peak-period bus lanes along a busy section of Fitzgerald Street in North Perth. The project was expected to cut up to six minutes off peak period journeys.
Notbaly, about 8,500 passengers travel on buses along Fitzgerald Street each work day.
The project will see the left-hand lane both ways on Fitzgerald Street – between John and Walcott streets – resurfaced with a distinctive dark red asphalt, which is used on other bus lanes around the city.
The bus lanes will apply during peak hours only, from 6.30am to 9am toward the city, and from 4pm to 6.30pm away from the city. Motorists will still be able to park on the street outside of these times.
The Fitzgerald Street project was recently given the green light by the City of Vincent, with final approvals from Main Roads WA and the City of Perth expected to be granted within weeks.
The project is expected to be completed mid-year.
