India’s fastest train “Gatimaan Express” made its debut run from Delhi to Agra in 100 minutes on 5th April at 11.51 am.
The train runs at a speed of 160 km per hour, covering the 184 kilometre distance. However, speed is not the only highlight of Gatimaan Express which is India’s first semi-high speed train.
The train completed its maiden journey in 100 minutes as compared to about 2-3 hours.
Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off the train from Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin station on Tuesday morning.
At a speed of 160 km per hour, the Gatimaan Express is the first “semi-high speed train” in the country. It aims to draw tourists who want to visit the Taj Mahal city on train without missing airline-style features like hostesses and an entertainment system.
Divisional railways manager (DRM), Delhi division of Northern Railway said that the train has coaches have been built at Kapurthala Railway Coach Factory in the Punjab and bio-toilets developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) which made it as costly as Rs 50 crore.
There are two executive chair car coaches and eight AC chair car coaches. The provision for hotspot infotainment is a new step towards and will be a loved initiative for the millennials. the railways has also prepared special menu for its passengers with two sets of menu for vegetarian and non-vegetarian passengers apart from cakes and wafers. In vegetarian menu, a passenger can choose between South Indian and Punjabi food and in non-vegetarian there will be continental dishes and sausages.
