A Malaysian low-cost carrier has come under a storm of controversy for “sexist” advertisements that used images of women’s backsides to promote discounted flights.
The ads by Firefly, a low-cost subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, featured images taken from behind of women wearing figure-hugging skirts.
The ad campaign was launched online and in local newspapers on March 8, the International Women’s Day. Many accused the airline of objectifying women to boost sales, as well as being generally “sexist” and “disgusting”.
Firefly has apologized for the controversial campaign with a tweet saying “It was never our intention to be discriminatory in our advertising and we sincerely apologise for causing any offence”
