Bolivia is one of the ‘must see’ destinations for 2016, says travel experts

More backpackers and adventure groups have started showing interest in visiting the landlocked Andean country of Bolivia. Travel experts have identified Bolivia as one of the ‘must see’ destinations for 2016.

The salt flats, the world-famous Oruro Carnvival and Lake Titicaca should see a significant boost in new visitors.

In 2015 La Paz was named a UNESCO wonder city because of its unique character. Since then tourist numbers have been steadily increasing. Further, ninety new attractions from high mountain adventure tourism to brand new city sights have been identified to help attract up to a million new tourists to La Paz this year. Last year there was a 40% increase in the number of new tourists visiting La Paz, the world’s highest city.

Significant investment in improving the infrastructure and tourist facilities has helped Bolivia grow in popularity.

The key to Bolivia’s new-found success is an improvement in the infrastructure, roads and communication system and the country’s unique Andean culture, say tourist guides.

The Dakar rally will travel through Bolivia’s top tourist site, the Salar de Uyuni salt flats, this week. Thousands of tourists are expected to visit, boosting the local economy by millions of dollars.

After decades languishing in the shadows of its more famous neigbours like Peru, Brazil, Chile, confidence is growing in the Bolivian tourist industry that 2016 will be a landmark year.
