Food and wine fans are set to enjoy more mouth-watering delights at Taste Great Southern after the popular culinary festival secured Western Australian State Government funding for the next three years.
The annual event comprises more than 70 activities that celebrate the lifestyle, premium food and award-winning wine of Western Australia’s Great Southern region.
Western Australia Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the Government was proud to support the event through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program, funded by Royalties for Regions.
“Over the past 11 years, Taste Great Southern has grown into one of the State’s top food and wine festivals and our sponsorship until 2018 means the event can grow, secure attractions and plan ahead,” Dr Hames said.
“Taste Great Southern is an incredible showcase of the region’s world-class cuisine with almost 9,000 attendees this year enjoying festivals, markets, degustation dinners, celebrity chefs, beach barbecues, master classes, cooking demonstrations and performances.
“The event’s success shows that Western Australia is maturing into one of the world’s foremost culinary tourism destinations, which is supported by the Taste 2020 Food and Wine Strategy released last month.”
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the Royalties for Regions investment would continue to encourage visitors to discover the rich experiences offered in regional WA.
“Tourism is crucial to the Western Australian economy and has many facets, creating social and economic prospects for people who live and work in the regions,” Mr Redman said.
“Tourism has a strong influence on regional development and well-established events like Taste Great Southern are a strategic asset for our State.”
Taste Great Southern Food Festival will be held next year in the month of March and April.
