CALABASAS, CALIF. - CheapAir.com is the first online travel agency to book direct flights between Los Angeles and Havana, Cuba. The first weekly flights are online and bookable for travel December 12, December 19 and December 26. More flights will be added in the coming months.
In February 2015, CheapAir.com became the first website to book flights between the U.S. and Cuba. Since then, demand for these flights has grown. In recent months, nearly 40 flights between Havana and Miami have sold out. West Coast residents, however, had no opportunity to fly non-stop to Cuba. Now, that has changed.
To fly non-stop from Los Angeles to Havana, Cuba, travelers select one of 12 government-approved reasons to visit the country. On CheapAir.com, "Educational activities" is the most popular reason for travel to Cuba and year-to-date has been selected by 27 percent of travelers. "Professional research and professional meetings" (23 percent) takes a close second place followed by "Family visits" (14 percent).
"People are eager to visit Cuba before the sweeping change in U.S.-Cuban relations transforms the country," said Jeff Klee, CEO of CheapAir. "It's still one of the few places in the world that is, relatively, untouched by American culture and businesses. Cuba is now a short flight away but it's a different world.
