Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, will introduce direct flights between Glasgow and the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius. It will be the first time Vilnius has been served as a destination from Glasgow Airport and Wizz Air will operate a year round, twice weekly service.
The flights between Glasgow and Vilnius will be starting on 16 September 2015.
Vilnius is the second biggest city of the Baltic states and is renowned for being home to one of the largest surviving medieval quarters in Europe. Its Old Town contains almost two thousand medieval, gothic, renaissance, and baroque buildings, and it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1994.
Wizz Air currently operates services to the Polish cities of Warsaw, Poznan, Katowice and Gdansk from Glasgow. On 1 April 2015, Wizz Air announced it will add direct flights to the Hungarian capital of Budapest and the Polish city of Lublin.
Wizz Air’s Daniel de Carvalho added: “We have recently announced new services from Glasgow to Budapest and Lublin and today I am thrilled to announce our 7th Glasgow route to Vilnius. With fares starting from only GBP 18.49 we hope to see many passengers on board.”
The next three months will see the launch of a further 13 new routes from Glasgow Airport including direct flights to Las Vegas, Munich, Prague and Bordeaux. On 30 May 2015, Canadian airline WestJet will launch daily, direct flights between Glasgow and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
