Travel spending 2015 – Nearly 53% of Indians are going to spend more


The growth of the Indian travel industry is making it to the headlines of the global travel industry news rooms in the recent years. 2014 turned out to be an enterprising year and consequently the outlook of the travel sector in 2015 is poised to be another record-breaking year. According to a TripBarometer survey by TripAdvisor, nearly 53% of Indians are going to spend more on travel this year. Here is a brief report on the survey.

Here are some of the questions that the Indian travellers answered revealing the trend and model of the Indian travel industry in 2015:

 
1) Which countries would you love to visit in the next 24 months?

The answers were quite competitive as 29% of the respondents said Australia while 27% of them answered Switzerland. New Zealand was the other major country that received 27% vote.


2) Where are you likely to travel in the next 24 months?
67% of the respondents from India said they will go on a domestic trip to cities like Mumbai, Varanasi, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai. However, 33% of the Indian respondents said they will take international trips to London, Thailand, Paris, New York and Singapore.


3) Are you planning an international trip in the next 12 months?
The millennial travellers lead the trend with 81% of them planning to make an international trip. 70% of the family travellers and 84% of the retired individuals planning to travel said they will opt for an international trip.


4) Are you (hotels) planning to increase, maintain or decrease room rates in 2015?
Among the hoteliers of the country who responded to this question 49% of them said they will increase the room rates, 42% of the said they will keep it unchanged while 5% of them reportedly will decrease the room rates in 2015.


5) How much do you intend to spend on your vacations in the next 12 months?

As per the survey results, Rs 2.55 lakh is the average spend estimated for 2015 for International travel.
Rs 1.71 lakh estimate of 2015 vacation budget to be spent for travel within India. It is observed that Rs 2.71 lakh was the amount spent by travellers from India on an average in 2014, up from Rs 2.02 lakh spent in 2013.



6) Why will you spend more/less on your vacations in the next 12 months than you did in the previous year?
The answers that came were quite interesting. 42% of the travellers said that they will spend more as their family deserves it, however, 31% of the respondents said that they plan to spend less as they haven’t saved enough till now.
According to the survey results, 53% of the travellers are going to spend more in 2015 whereas 23% will be spending less.


7) Which are the top three things you are likely to spend on when you are on a holiday?
Food remained the most popular answer as 41% of the respondents said they will be spending on special meals and restaurants. 53% of them said they are planning to spend more on sight-seeing and 41% of them will spend more on accommodation.
 
India scored 3.85 in the Global Hotelier Confidence Index ranking second following Indonesia (score 3.9). The outlook of the travel industry is promising and the growth expected in the following months will definitely be a positive affair for the Indian travel sector.
